Amy received an undergraduate degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Marital and Family Counseling from Saint Louis University, where her studies focused on research in trauma and trauma treatment. She later received a specialized certificate from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Forensic Psychology. In the last ten years she worked in the Chicago district with trauma and domestic violence working on early intervention and police education. Following that, she spent 4 years working with children providing individual, family and group treatment for trauma. From there she served as the Clinical Director for a residential setting for adults with severe mental illness. Currently, she holds a supervisory role with BJC Behavioral Health where she manages two clinics that provide psychiatric care, and manages a team of case managers that provide community support. In the last two years she has been heading the project to make BJC Behavioral Health a Trauma Informed Agency, along with providing other BJC entities with trauma education and awareness. She also serves as a consultant with Barnes Jewish Hospital to develop a program that addresses secondary trauma for all of Barnes Jewish Hospital employees. She currently serves on two networking groups, one local and one national for trauma awareness. In the last year she has delivered over 30 speeches and training’s about trauma, the impact of trauma, and about trauma informed services.

Along with the psychology of understanding human nature, Amy has taken that knowledge and compiled it with managerial training to help corporate structures have better practices that produce results. Her training’s included 90 Days to Success, Crucial Conversations, and Crucial Confrontations. Amy has been a part of several organizational changes with in BJC Behavioral Health and implementing those new programs. One major development was being one of a partner of three who developed the only walk in model for mental health intakes for the entire St. Louis region.

Amy has a passion and dedication for helping others, which includes those in the community. In 2000 Amy was awarded the prestigious Gold Award for outstanding leadership and community service. For the last five years she has been a volunteer on the Disaster Preparedness Team under the St. Clair County Mental Health Board, and recently became a team leader for this organization. In the summer of 2014, Amy provided immediate mental health first aid to the residents in Ferguson, Missouri in their community. She also is a leading ambassador for the community movement “Alive and Well in STL”, and does volunteer efforts to help this cause, including two commercials with Channel 5 news to help St. Louis become a better place to live. Currently, Amy also volunteers on the Patients and Family Centered Care Committee at Children’s hospital to help develop organization changes that impact the patient’s experience for the better.
